Yes, New Year.. What about YOU?
Happy new year!!! We are now into the end of the first week of 2017! How many of you have set resolutions and/or started in on your : New year, New me, reciting? I don't know about you guys, but hitting/doing all of the resolutions I have set for myself have been quite a hit or miss already. Honestly sometimes i forget. ( I advise you all write them down 3 times. Once on paper, once in your phone somewhere it can be saved or kept and once somewhere you will see it everyday.) I have a pretty substantial list of things I want and need to change and accomplish this year. Also, some habits are hard to break! Lucky for me and anyone else struggling, there are still 350+ days to get it right! Follow these tips to keep you on the right track this year!
1) Be realistic: semi-self explanatory. Set goals the can really be obtained in a timely and reasonable manner. There's nothing wrong with aiming high and shooting for the moon. However, don't screw yourself out of even landing among the stars by over-stacking your work load. Taking on too much may inhibit you from getting ANYTHING done. You may end up spreading yourself too thin or being discouraged by not making as much progress as hoped.
2)Plan it out and have a few back up plans: Once you have your list or goals or whatever you want to call them, break them down. Write and plan out exactly what you want or need to accomplish and how you plan to execute . Include times or dates that you want these things accomplished by. Life has a great way of changing things and altering plans, so include a few back up plans or ways to achieve your goals. Where there's a will, there are MANY ways. The definition of RESOLUTION reads as: 1) a firm decision to do or not to do something; 2)the ACTION of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter. Meaning, its a work in progress. So it may take a while to get it right and stay on track.
3)Set deadlines/time limits: Making changes/goals , whether for health, finances or anything, should not be rushed. However, what do most people do when they have immense amount of time to do something? PROCRASTINATE! Even if your not a huge procrastinator, it can sometimes be easy for things that aren't priority to fall out of focus and ultimately be forgotten. Set a time line for your goals with 'check in intervals'. Example: If your goal is to organize your office/office space: pick a date in the future that u would like spend doing something else or a reason (besides the obvious) or occasion for having a completely organized office. Set yourself between 2 days to a week for each area. (Depending how messy, hoe much stuff, how often you work in your office, etc). DO NOT give yourself too much slack time between projects! You will end up never finishing or having one well kept side and one side or area with more work and a bigger mess. Move straight into your next area/project.
4) Network & team up: Surround yourself with positive people.. And as played out as that sounds and is, IT HELPS!! Team up with encouraging people that are also working to better themselves. Encourage each other and (kindly) hold each other accountable! Find people with similar goals as you and trade ideas and encouragement on how to achieve them.
5) Celebrate your victories &(reasonably) Reward yourself:
Making real life changes or sticking to resolutions is hard!!! Somethings take time and/or starting over a few times to get right and stick to. Celebrate each milestone. Reward yourself with each big sign of progression. Treat yo'self!.. Responsibly of course. The rewards should not out weigh or be bigger then the progress!
